Description: The goal of our workshop is to deliver simple, practical tools to better equip the therapist in his/ her work with couples. We will focus on two primary objectives: 1) provide psycho educational materials specific to enhancing the couple’s communication skills; 2) increase awareness in both the therapist and client. Philosophically we believe that as the therapist facilitates better communication, better understanding occurs and as better understanding occurs, empathy increases. As a result of true empathy, combativeness decreases and couples move to an experience of deeper intimacy.

Presenters: Jennifer W. Walken, Ed. D., P-HSP,LMFT, ABFamP is a graduate of Duke University and has been in private practice in Raleigh since 1978. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents, couples and families but since raising her two "adults in training" children, she has focused mainly on couples, adult individuals and family psychotherapy. Her philosophy is to help people "be the best they can be", help couples "fall back in love again", and to consider all aspects of a person emotionally, physically, historically, and spiritually. Further information can be found on her site at TherapistLocator.net.

Tammy Summers, M.Ed., LPC is a graduate of University of Virginia and has been in private practice in Raleigh, NC since l990. She has over 20 years of experience as an individual, family and relationship counselor and workshop leader. She has worked extensively with adolescents and adults. She is also expanding her practice to include more Life Coaching. Tammy published her first book in February, 2006 entitled, AUTHENTIC SOULMATES: TIPS ON THE JOURNEY TO INTIMACY.
