Define, Discuss, Decide: Ethics & Professional Issues in Counseling

Description: The purpose of this workshop is to heighten mental health professionals’ ethical awareness, review aspects of ethical codes and standards of practice, and examine their decision making process related to ethical and professional issues.

Objectives:

• Study and define a number of ethical dilemmas and discuss in a consultative milieu the nature of the dilemma including what specific ethical codes or standards of practice are involved.
• Decide a course of action with a meta-understanding of one’s own ethical instincts and decision making process.
• Learn about ‘at risk’ groups and modalities where ethical and professional issues commonly surface.
• Explore aspirational ethics and create safeguards against threats to one’s ethical instincts.

About the Presenter: Dr. Kathleen M. Connolly is the founder of Acumeans, Inc. Counseling and Consulting in Charlotte. Dr. Connolly’s areas of interest include individual and couples counseling, clinical hypnosis, depression, anxiety, weight management, insomnia, work/career development and leadership and management development. Dr. Connolly holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology, human services, counseling and counselor education. She has worked with a broad array of clients, including adults, adolescents, children and families. Currently, her practice serves adults, couples and business/corporate clients. Dr. Connolly is an associate member of the graduate faculty of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor. She is also an Approved Clinical Supervisor and is certified in clinical hypnosis.
